Our Projects

ATHMA BLOOD BANK - Chennai (License No 420/28C)

Considering the shortfall of blood and blood components, lack of awareness, and motivation on blood donation, we had initiated our first project in the name of Athma Blood Bank in Sugam Hospital, Chrompet, located in the southern part of Chennai. The centre is operational since 2017 with systematic and stringent protocols and with Quality Indicators to monitor our system round the clock. Knowing the importance of Blood components and usages, Athma Blood Bank urges to have a 100% Component preparation centre which is need of the hour.

Blood collection details in the State

The average total units of blood collected in Tamil Nadu through Govt and Private blood banks are 8.93 lakhs out of which 3.31 lakhs are collected through Govt. blood banks. Around 90% of the total units of blood collected in all Govt. blood banks in the state are mainly through voluntary blood donation. The demand is around 1.32 lakhs , the supply of blood is around 90 thousand in a month

Current supply and utilization of blood

The current supply of blood is the total number of units of whole blood and components supplied to healthcare facilities, against all requests/demand for blood transfusion over a defined period of time, usually taken as one year. The supply of blood is generally from licensed blood banks or blood storage centres across the country. Ideally, a health care system should address 100% of demand for blood by ensuring uninterrupted supply within its catchment area. However, there exists a gap between clinical demand and supply due to the low volume of voluntary blood donation, lack of awareness, irrational demand, poor supply chain management system etc.
